Welcome and Introductions
Welcome everyone and thank you to everyone who attended. Apologies to the members who where unable to attend.
Steve also kindly spoke to a new laryngectomy patient who came back into the hospital for an outpatient appointment and hopefully he will be able to attend the group soon.
Previous Minutes
Katie went through the previous meeting minutes regarding the on-going search for a new meeting room, feedback from NALC, committee members update and fundraising.
Feedback from SLT Team
A new set venue searches continue. Julie Crane has been able to book a room for March’s meeting at Cedar House (opposite the dental hospital in Liverpool).
Emer is also optimistic that Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Charity may fund somewhere – the cheapest location so far is the Liverpool Library.
Supporting new laryngectomy patients on wards and in clinic – Elizabeth is still on the case with this.
Committee Members Update
Ongoing work with setting up the charity bank account.
Steve is going to get in touch with NALC to ensure the group is added to the NALC website.
Fundraising
Elizabeth will be raising money for the Liverpool Larry’s at London marathon and will soon be setting up a JustGiving online donation page and handing out sponsorship forms.
Katie has also set up a book sale in the staff atrium, as a continual collection of donations.
Katie and Elizabeth are also planning another staff cake sale here at Aintree hospital to fundraise for the group.
Website updates
Derek has informed us that the Liverpool Larrys website is number 1 on searches and is continuing to be renewed with any latest updates.
Travel Insurance –
Steve presented information on travel insurance and recommended companies to support customers with medical conditions abroad. If anyone would like a travel insurance information handout, please get in contact with Steve.
Steve and Anne also recommended others to get a Global Health Insurance Card. This is a free card which ensures the rights of UK residents to access emergency and medically necessary care when travelling in the EU will continue. This includes medically necessary treatment for a pre-existing or chronic condition.
