Our Laryngectomy Visit’s
Nobody ask’s for a life dealing with cancer, but, we have to be strong and overcome new challenges. Our life will never be the same.
Overcoming these challenges requires mastering new techniques in caring for one’s airways, dealing with life long side
effects of radiation and other treatments, living with the results of surgeries, facing uncertainties about the future, and struggling with psychological, social, medical and dental issues.
This cancer and its treatment affect some of the most basic human functions, communication, nutrition, and social interaction.
The solutions to many of our problems are not only based on science but also on experience. What works for one person may not always work for another.
So, if you or someone close to you need help dealing with your, or their Laryngectomy symptoms and feel you need a better understanding of what you are dealing with, we have our experienced volunteer service, who will come to you, in Aintree Hospital, to discuss any and all problems you may be facing now or in the future.
Afterwards, when you are ready, our monthly meetings are there to offer support. Come along and listen to what we can share with you, talk with other Laryngectomees who have lived and are living where you are daily.
What to expect…
Experienced Support: Our volunteers who have many years of personal experience can offer insights and emotional support that a medical professional may not be able to.
Information: Volunteers can answer practical questions about daily living, such as eating, communicating, and breathing.
Connection: They can help combat the feelings of isolation and depression that can come with a laryngectomy by showing patients what is possible after surgery.
Diverse Options: Visits will be one-on-one, we come to Aintree Hospital and work with the staff, to meet you. When you’re out and well enough
come along to our monthly meetings and also connect online via our WhatsApp Group.
If you would like one of our volunteers to visit, when you or someone close is in the recovery ward at Aintree Hospital then please contact Steve Mason who will co-ordinate with the staff at Aintree a suitable time, date, etc

The only person who can truly tell you what being a Laryngectomee is like… is not a doctor, nurse or surgeon, it is another Laryngectomee.
